Custom Shirts for the PJ Wardrobe features

The Shirt Is the Uniform of PJ’s Professional Class

Walk through Jaya 33 at lunchtime, stand on the platform at Surian station, or wait for the lift in Menara Ken TTDI, and you will see the same thing: rooms full of professionals who have mostly given up on the jacket but still need a shirt that performs. A well-built shirt is the quiet engine of a Petaling Jaya wardrobe. It holds a collar roll under a tie, breathes in the monsoon humidity, and looks presentable twelve hours into a day that started with a client meeting in Section 13 and ended with a family dinner in Bandar Utama.

Lanwin Tailor has been cutting shirts from our Lorong PJU3 studio since 1980. Three generations of pattern archives and Louis Wong’s own experience across forty-six years of Klang Valley fittings mean every shirt leaves the workroom with a combination of British construction discipline and a local understanding of how cotton behaves in a tropical city.

A Personal Pattern, Not a Size Label

Most made-to-measure shirt services in Malaysia start with a standard block and grade it up or down to fit. We do it the other way around. During your first appointment, Ridzuan Hashim drafts a fresh pattern for your torso from scratch, measuring over twenty points and observing how your shoulders sit in a relaxed stance. The pattern is archived under your name, so every future reorder begins from the shape of your body rather than from a size chart.

This is why Lanwin shirts do not suffer from the classic made-to-measure problems. There is no gaping at the back yoke when you reach across a desk, no bunching at the waist when you sit in an LRT seat, and no pulling at the shoulder seam when you raise an arm to hail a Grab outside Paradigm Mall.

What a Drafted Pattern Catches

During the fitting we look at collar height against your neck length, sleeve pitch against your natural arm hang, and the drop between chest and waist so the shirt tucks cleanly. Small changes at this stage define how a shirt wears for years.

Cottons Curated for a Tropical Climate

We keep more than two hundred cloth bunches in the studio, almost all of them from Thomas Mason, Albini, and Canclini. These are the same Italian and British mills that supply the world’s finest luxury houses, and the bunches we stock are filtered aggressively for the Klang Valley climate. Our journal piece on shirting cottons explains how we choose.

Tropical poplins in 100 and 120 two-ply are our workhorse for daily corporate shirts. They breathe under a jacket, resist the worst of the humidity, and press back to crisp condition with a simple steam.

Voile and batiste weaves are the go-to for executives who walk outdoors between meetings in Section 14 and Damansara Uptown during the hottest months. They feel almost weightless while still holding shape under a tie.

Royal oxford and pinpoint fabrics have their place in freezing boardrooms where the air conditioning is set punishingly low. They carry a little more body than poplin and keep their line through a long-haul regional flight from KLIA.

Premium linen and linen-cotton blends suit relaxed Friday rotations, groomsmen packages, and destination weddings in Pangkor or Langkawi. We build these with unlined soft collars and a more generous body so they move with you.

Collars, Cuffs, and the Details That Age Well

Every Lanwin custom shirt is assembled with mother of pearl buttons, split yokes for shoulder balance, and a hand-set collar that keeps its shape after repeated pressing. The details are yours to choose:

  • Collar styles from discreet semi-spread through bold cutaway, one-piece, tab, and button-down.
  • Cuff options including single barrel, double-button rounded, and French cuffs for cufflinks.
  • Placket choices ranging from a clean fly front for black-tie rotations to a classic front placket for daily wear.
  • Optional monogramming on the chest, cuff, or tail, stitched by hand.

Mei Ling Chen will talk you through the choices during the first consultation and recommend combinations that match how you actually wear shirts, not just how a showroom photograph might look.

Volume Rotations for the Busy Executive

Most of our regular clients settle into a rotation of around a dozen custom shirts, rotating them through the week and replacing the oldest pieces each year. Once your pattern is on file, reorders are effortless. We will recommend the right blend of poplin, twill, and tropical cloths for your workload and arrange delivery across Petaling Jaya, Bandar Utama, SS2, Ara Damansara, Kelana Jaya, Mutiara Damansara, Subang Jaya, and TTDI. Shirts start at RM195 each with volume discounts from three pieces upward.

Questions

Shirts FAQ

Common questions about our custom shirts for the pj wardrobe service. Don't see your question? Contact us and we'll be happy to help.

What is the minimum order, and should I start with one shirt or several?
There is no minimum, we are happy to build a single shirt. That said, most first-time Lanwin Tailor clients start with two or three different cloths so they can feel how poplin, twill, and a lightweight voile each behave during a PJ workday. Orders of three or more shirts qualify for a volume discount.
How easy is it to reorder once you have my pattern?
Very easy. Your personal shirt block is filed under your name at our Petaling Jaya studio, along with your preferred collar, cuff, and placket settings. Reorders can be confirmed by a quick call or WhatsApp to 012-3751234, and we will ship or arrange pickup once the shirts are pressed.
Which cottons work best for Petaling Jaya's climate?
For daily corporate wear we lean on 100 and 120 two-ply poplins from Thomas Mason, which breathe well and press cleanly. For the hottest stretches of the year we introduce voile, fine linen, and Albini tropical blends. If your office in Section 13 or Damansara Uptown runs very cold, a slightly heavier royal oxford will keep you comfortable in aggressive air conditioning.
What collar and cuff options are available?
Every collar is cut in-house, including semi-spread, full cutaway, one-piece, tab, button-down, and classic point, with or without removable bones. Cuffs can be standard barrel, two-button rounded, or French cuffs if you prefer cufflinks. During your fitting we will recommend a shape that suits your face and your usual knot choice.
How long does a custom shirt commission take?
Allow three to four weeks from the initial fitting through final delivery. A rush service is available if you have a wedding or corporate event, and office-visit fittings can be arranged for clients based in Bandar Utama, Ara Damansara, and the Section 13 corporate belt.
